Aluminum Docks Are Easy To Maintain

While there are many materials that don't mix with water, aluminum is a material that actually does. While aluminum is not indestructible, you may begin to think that it is after seeing how well an aluminum dock holds up over the years.

Aluminum Decking Options

One of the decking options for your boat dock is aluminum. In addition to a deck that looks like aluminum, there are also decks designed to resemble cedar. The advantage of faux-cedar over the real thing is that aluminum is much more resistant to corrosion; it is much more durable and will last longer. The wood-like appearance is achieved through a special powder or by painting the aluminum to make it look like wood. Wooden decks are always at risk for warping and decaying. The best option is one that comes with UV protection to prolong the life of your deck.

The Advantages of an Aluminum Frame

The aluminum frame of a deck is very lightweight, durable, and easy-to-install. Aluminum forms a special coating naturally when exposed to moisture which makes corrosion minimal unless it becomes damaged. It does not rust at all because it does not contain iron or steel.

Cleaning Your Aluminum Deck for Safety and Beauty

The aluminum decking only needs to be cleaned as you see fit to improve the appearance of your dock and to make it safe. If your dock is not cleaned regularly, it might become too slippery and might become dangerous to use. They are especially slippery when algae attaches to them.

Starting Off with a Pressure Washer

A pressure washer is one of the most useful tools when cleaning aluminum docks. Remove whatever you can with the pressure washer before applying anything else. Use a wide spray initially and use a more narrow spray as you remove hard-to-reach areas. There may be some stubborn spots. They can be best cleaned off using a wire brush.

Cleaning Options for Stubborn Stains

Add a non-caustic cleaner that will not harm the surrounding environment. Apply a small amount of baking soda to a sponge and scrub the oily spot to remove whatever you can. If there is any oily residue that you still can't remove, add a drop of dish soap to a rough sponge. Use as little as possible because large quantities of soap are not good for the environment. However, dish soap is very effective at cutting through grease.
